Oh, look, finally getting notices in my email that several of my files - all Sims content- some of it like my kareoke machine have absolutely no connection to a name of any song or tv show nor 'sexyfeet' nor another pay site nor..you know what? I don't care. Mediafire, I've decided to stop using you anyway. Your service wasn't all that great to begin with and the crap these last few weeks, I'm not even bothering with a ticket because I don't care. Moving all my stuff to box.net even if I have to make multiple accounts (will probably need one just for all the hairs). I'm out of bandwidth right now, so my links won't work until the first, but at least I have a reasonable expectation that they will. That mediafire account can just die all that quicker.


On the other side of things, revamping and typing out my world-building post. It will be long. I will try to include links and pictures. I will snark, and go into fannish detail. I will also hint out what my projects of the to-do lists will be thanks to these.

Please, please please write them and let them know, even if you've resolved to switch hosts forever. This may not be Mediafire's fault. A quick googling suggests that no other group is having problems on this scale.

If that doesn't scream 'T$R,' I don't know what does.

Oh, I know the most likely reason is trolls (and while this is right up T$R's alley I have a feeling they aren't the only ones). And it's hard to effectively police the asshattery of the internet. Which is why I'm gonna to switch, because unless some change happens with Mediafire that makes this harder to abuse, this is no reason for me to stay.
But I'll probably type out a 'relavent quote from EULA' as I do my 'I quit' stomp-off.

The thing is, no file host is safe from asshats abusing the Report Abuse button. They all have the same 'delete first, investigate when the uploader insists' policy, because they can't actually police things as they get uploaded. So if Thomas is using his minions to make life harder for the 'independent' creator, or if somebody out there just thinks it's funny to get Sims 2 players in a tizzy, there's no guarantee moving to Box or Dropbox won't be next.

Or at least that's my excuse for not moving my seven hundred uploads from Mediafire to anywhere else, and then changing all the links.

I'm going to list out all my problem files when off work and send my reply.

I typed up the message, and it's basically the quote of the EULA, the fact that mine weren't violations, this is a common problem, I don't hold mediafire to blame but the fraudulent claimers but still I'm taking my business elsewhere (I also dislike the pop-ups and trouble getting to the download from the other end of using mediafire, so there's that) and thank you for your time.

... I've been using adblock so long I'm always surprised to hear it when pages are rife with ads and pop-ups, honestly. *sheepish* But it looks so clean and streamlined! Because I'm only seeing the stuff the page actually needs to function, that's why.

But that seems reasonable. I just hope whoever's trolling a) loses interest SOON and b) doesn't expand their interest to other sites.

Eh, some pop-ups, but mostly it wasn't until I learned the trick on telling the button when I hit 'download' to open in a new tab that the actual thing to start dowloading would show for my computer. If I just hit the medifire page link to begin download, 2 out of 3 times it wouldn't load. So I was already iffy on mediafire before I started using it personally.

It was hard to write that ticket without including the word troll.

I seriously had no idea Mediafire had any adds on it at all until somebody said something about it. Also I may not have noticed the new-window trick because links on GoS open in new windows by default. I really ought to learn the HTML code so I can make my links do that here on DW.

I believe it, but I'm glad you wrote it! I think protesting your innocence might actually be legally beneficial, if it ever came to legalities.

Well, sent my long ticket with the links of the 7 files (that was not fun hunting down the actual links- and the files themselves quite odd. Only one hair recolor -and of a Trapping conversion of a Nouk mesh, hello. One of the sets of the phone booth recolors - weird. Only the adult age of the "Shift in Mood" - okay, smallest set, and sexyfeet in the name but really? and the two ages of the SF tunic mesh nightshirt. And the kareoke machine and wizard beards from the summer secret santa. Seriously, of all my files to go after, not the large hair files, or the ones with song titles in the names?)

I was probably as subtle as a brick with the "you are loosing customers"

Oh well. Off my chest. And I'm going to go do something else- like type up the next 5 handwritten pages of my crazy world-building.
