Sweet Jesus, weep into you oatmeal.
Heget decided sleep was an effort not worth taking and started some tiny projects.
Like more shifts- of which I'm asking for input. Because the voice of reason and restraint untied the ropes and escaped from the locked room it's stuffed into whenever I start a Sims project.
I already made, on two different meshes, long sleeved and fancy for a given value of no non-period ruffles or constarcting ribbonwork (and how I desire to make some w/ blackwork embroidery!). So there are two more sleeve lengths of shifts to go under kirtles (changeling has the elbow-length done). And yes, for the most part I'm using my texture because: a. No boob shading does make the child size easy b. Hat's shifts have the deep keyhole and a print or some sort of patterned weave to the linen. Thus I can excuse having multiple sets when they differ. (And the wide round neckline looks more coordinated for the early Renaissance high-waisted, wide shalllow neck gowns).
So. 2 styles- a short sleeve (about T-shirt length, really) to which the detachable sleeves can be pinned. Or something like here - a sleeveless with straps and gathering (band? drawstring? what?) under the breasts.

They're on the same mesh- which has Teen and Child conversions, yay! So, okay looking? Do I make both sets? Am I fooling anyone? (Stop giving yourself work.)
Also, Hat- how's this so far?

I got really bored, thought, "Okay, see how easy those easy fixes would be..." I think the one side still could be raised a tad more to symmetrical it out, and more I look at it the more the lack of the tie loops bugs me. But drat you. Now I'm going to have to learn how to make a custom hair mesh package & resize this for all the ages. You know I can blame you for downloading a copy of Milkshape in the first place? Cow recolors.
Speaking of which, note to self. Photograph the complete set of cow coat recolors and post that set to this journal too.
Also, close to done....ish on heraldry project.

Date: 2013-01-27 08:07 pm (UTC)I think editing more of the straps around the shoulder/side area and maybe on a different mesh (I have a few shorter and quite a few alpha meshes to try). And I wish it was a little clearer on the various ways such a 'bra-shirt' would be constructed to give that pleated under the breasts look. (My costume knowledge is much stronger post medieval- or heck, I know where to find the diagrams to show eachly how togas and stolas were draped. But I'm not very efficent at medieval costume research- hence your links are god-sends. And I purposely have this fantasy world game, so often I'm thinking in my head how the world-logic dictates something that is just contrary to our historic accuracy. Like have the 'Tudor' costumed group isloated away from the 'Renaissance' group. And then deciding that because real-world had the battle w/ the Swiss guard inspiring slashed garments, so choosing a story battle to be the equalivent- and having it really fit because it's after this batttle that the 'Renaissance' group has a shake-up in structure. But that means most 'Tudor' gowns shouldn't have the slashing because they haven't come in contact w/ the Ren group yet. These are the headaches I give myself. -And the research I do ferret down to the most miniscule is on the Sil. side of things.) In short, heget lives in fear of the historical accuracy police citating her. But will belligerently defend her wacky heresies to the Tolkienites. ;P
I'll try to fiddle with the hair mess on my own- and yes, I had to pull the DR mesh before I could preview. I think making a new mesh package is, oddly enough, the easiest way to go, and once I figure out which joint is which the assignments should be straightened out. Right now parts of the mesh have three joints- and I have a feeling all I need to do is assign some of that third joint back to the second or such... Just how wacky is the aniamtion?
And would we need to mesh on how the ties go around the cap, because looking at pictures it seems to fit snuggly to the skull until almost a covered bun at the base of the neck...
But hey- off to make 60 recolors of the first shift! (20 + 20 + 20 and heget learn to texture ref.)

Date: 2013-01-28 12:43 am (UTC)My big question, of course, is how do you breastfeed in one of those dang things? Did Nursie have a uniform out of practicality? I know these are problems my Sims will never, ever have, because they don't know what they're wearing, but I still want to know.
Funny thing you like my links, because I'm working on bigger costuming resource post than my original. More links, more specialized info from me, and in the end a massive links list. I should be working on textures or my Blind Date gift, but no, my brain says "WRITE STUFF NOW."
I completely concur on making the thing a stand-alone mesh. The only time I recolored a default replacement mesh was with Aquilegia's DJ, and... honestly, I stand by that decision, because DJ WTF was never one of EA's brighter ideas. The animation is perfectly normal for short, bouncy hair, but on a cap it kind of looks like the cap is made of jello. Not attractive. Also, I am NOT CONCERNED about ties, because that way lies remapping. (If you WANT to re-map I support you and admire you and you get to pick a saint's day for yourself, but the Maxis mapping is usable if awkward and I would not ask you to mess with it unless you really wanted to.)
Texture referencing is EASY, and if you only have one group, it's also fast. I recommend making a notepad or word or some kind of file to paste your reference numbers into if you're going to be linking more than one age/sex combo to your originals (Phaenoh at MTS recommends a two-file method, with two instances of SimPE open). I also tend to copy from the texture, not the... other bit that you need to paste to. Anyway, the Name field when you're looking at the texture has the exact same info, it's just also got _txtr stuck to the end. Copy everything but _txtr and you've got the same info from a field that doesn't ask you if you want to commit every time you touch anything in it. Plus you've got a solid visual reference that yes you are looking at the right thing.

Date: 2013-01-28 01:23 am (UTC)Okay- so lacing up one side. That's sensible and doable. I just finished the 20 shades of the first (okay, set 3) shifts for adults- and heavens the time I spent getting the line between the end of the sleeve and tiniest bit of shadow on the arm perfect...It's like the less detail on the recolor the more I fret over them. Inverse proportions and all.
I am stringly tempted to find a halfway decent short skirt with bare SF and make the strap/sleeveless shift a knee-length or so garment as the swimwear-only option.
Dj remeinds me- still don't have the micro DR for the kareoke machine... *grumbles*
And, jeez, I know I downloaded the teen version of that mesh... Found teh child conversion....
I'll be honest, my eyes started glazing over the second setence in on the texture referencing. I need to pull out the beginning tutorial for dummies and start reading. :)
Well, goign to flip a coin. I'll either keep BS open and make clothing or close it up, bin more of the hairs I forgot to, work a bit more on that mesh (I like the sound of St. Heget's Cap. I'm gonna try.) And banners. *Sobs* As long as I never count just how many designs are there- or think that it's really two different designs per emblem, I might get through it. I've finished the two master sets, and there's only everything else under the sun...
