"Insanity in the Age of Reason"
Heget's Charmingly Massive 18th Century Clothing Sets
Warning, long posts incoming!

Okay, I uploaded here almost everything from the Keep that was part of the biggest set I've done so far. Or maybe those 100 hairs... Either way, this is a whole hood's worth of clothing. I'm saving you some of the long rambling superfluous biographical info, but I will repeat my spiel on why this set even exists:

Photobucket

But why this contamination [of 18th century clothing] in what is supposed to be a Tolkien-inspired Sims game? Because since I'm starting from THE BEGINNING and as I've explained elsewhere I'm using a retrograde historic scale for my cultures, I decided the easiest way to tell my divine beings, the Ainur, apart from my elves and humans was to dress them differently. And I personally think putting a pantheon in a crystal-toga creation reeks of rehash and creative failing. So instead of Tudor or medieval the 20-30 not-quite-gods-but-in-practice-yes would wear vaguely accurate 18th Century clothing. Aside from issues of mesh and gameplay, there are inaccuracies in fabric pattern, color, and design choices. If you can point them out, then frankly it's because you're more invested in the era than I am and are attempting to play an accurate to the 1700s game. To which I say, "bravo!" and "take what you want, fix if you need". This isn't a popular era for Sims games. But maybe all these sets will change that...

The baroque and rococo couldn't stay away, for all that my more-or-less Tolkian Sims game is more-or-less medieval/renaissance.

Fantasy Rococo!

But the Gods! Who aren't really gods but middle-management divinities working for an omnipresent, omnipotent being and therefore we will call the collective group by their proper name of Ainur. I used some rough-model versions as actors in the in-game photo shoot, so I decided to compile a few of the sillier, in-character, or multi-category images as a gallery to give you a preview of the outfits in this insanity. Find it at the bottom of the post.

I'm also including the gallery of pictures and most of the obnoxious GIFS.

Unless noted otherwise all recolors will come in 32 randomly selected shades as shown below. This is a massive set that started of as way to dress my Ainur, so I chose colors that fit with the power set or themes.

See this ass laughing at my pain and showing no respect for furniture? This is the original Dark Lord, Creator of Balrogs, Bad Boss of Sauron, when shown always wearing a full suit of very spiky black armor. Except here. Here he's the jerk in the Puritan coat. I'm working on a proper Tin Tyrant look for him, but he'll start off like everyone else in Rococo black and red.

So this guy, Melkor, is exactly like that one obnoxious orchestra player that halfway through rehearsal decides he's going to improvise his own tune instead of the piece everyone is here for. He drowns out the other members around him, dragging them into his loud repetitive ego-fest until the conductor finally calls a halt and chastises him. Which is exactly what happened in chapter one of The Silmarillion.

This adorable couple looking up at the night sky from a field of flowers? The king and queen of the Ainur, the first among equals. He's the lord of the sky and winds and giant eagles; she created the stars. My first power couple- even these temporary versions of the two dominate my posts with their cuteness. Two Notes: that song repeated in each of the LotR books, "A Elbereth Gilthoniel," which Samwise famously repeats before he kicks Shelob's butt, is an invocation to her. And he is Melkor's brother. (family drama!)

Star-gazing. So appropriate!

New character making the best of rebekah's knitting object: Vaire the Weaver. She's in charge of recording the history of everything in her looms and is married to the Ainur of Doom or Fate in the Old Norse definition. Also the couple runs the Elven Underworld (most occupancies are temporaries), so she has a one-woman Moerae or Norn taste about her (and all the ancient and innumerable weaving and spinning deities). She is the reason I gather as many looms and related clutter as I can and plan on making a functioning TV from one of them. I haven't finalized exact skin tone or hair style yet, but she's close to how I want her.

The chthonian couple resting on the floor in front of the fireplace, exhausted from reading all the fates of men and elves they need to learn. The Doomsman looks a little stunned. He must be thinking, "Surely we're not going to have to rename the Turin Sim that many times?"

Hi, Nessa. Put your hand down. This is why you're not in many photos. Yes, the real version of you will have plenty of screen time dancing with deer.

The dress is a one-of-a-kind recolor made specifically for her. I've compiled all that would fit under that category into its own set, but unlike most clothing to come I'm not offering a range of options. It's a bit random. That set will either be the least useful of the bunch or the one everyone will like the most.

Yavanna wearing a simple green, her baby sister Vana in a fancier one-off dress with a small rose bouquet print, and her spouse Aule in a sleeveless waistcoat and matching breeches playing catch and enjoying the fresh air in the garden. Once there's a mix colors and sets around, the wide variety to the crowd while still maintaining enough internal consistency of appearance pleases me.

Plus, outdoors scene! With plenty of plants!

Last of the nighttime screenshots, here's Yavanna in the riding habit (I'll explain what that is in when I get to that post) possibly excited about the canine behind her. As goddess of everything from slime mold to oaks and insects to oliphants, she can. Though they are in the woods, that isn't one of the spawned wolves. But it was photogenic when it literally wandered into the scene.

Totally makes sense if I explain it out. Partially. The two dancers are Arien and Tilion, the divine servants charged with piloting the sun and moon, respectively, across the sky and protecting them from attacks. The sun is the last fruit of the light-bearing golden tree; the moon is the flower from the silver one. They're doing ballet because dance as a form of expression and magic is important to the story and the tiled floor with its random candles and wall of mirrors stands in for the vastness of the starry heavens through which they travel.

As a painting this bizarre post-baroque ballet is going on many an Ainur wall.
